The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has announced an exciting new collaboration with Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice to launch a specialized Dungeons & Dragons dice set themed entirely around disability pride. The initiative marks a significant step forward for tabletop roleplaying games, combining thoughtful, inclusive design with a commitment to making the hobby more accessible to players of all backgrounds and abilities.
Every hero deserves a fair and accessible chance to roll for initiative. Wizards of the Coast, working in partnership with Sirius Dice, unveiled the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set, a brand-new 7-piece polyhedral set engineered to remove traditional barriers and invite every kind of player to the table. The product was inspired by extensive research conducted by the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA) employee resource group at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.
The dice have been carefully crafted to support adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By combining striking visual contrast, thoughtful tactile and physical features, and easy readability, the collaboration delivers a product worthy of a legendary loot drop while addressing long-standing frustrations within the disabled gaming community. Furthermore, with integrated digital support on D&D Beyond for both in-person campaigns and online play, the Disability Pride Dice Set helps ensure that every roll, every critical success, and every unforgettable table moment can be shared by everyone, regardless of how they access the game.
Accessibility and Adventure
Bailey Vaughan, a D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and a DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, explained that the foundational ideas for the new Disability Pride Dice Set stem directly from the everyday obstacles disabled players encounter when using standard gaming accessories.
According to Vaughan, the design team recognized early on that because the disability community is extraordinarily diverse, a single set of dice could not possibly eliminate every single barrier a disabled player might face. Instead, the primary objective was to demonstrate how thoughtful, intentional design adjustments can create a massive cumulative difference in overall accessibility.
Those adjustments are evident from the moment a player interacts with the product’s packaging, which features an easy-open cap designed to assist individuals with low vision or mobility challenges in identifying and storing their equipment. The physical design of the dice themselves incorporates increased font sizes, easily distinctive color palettes, the use of the highly readable OpenDyslexic font, and a unique arch-style d4 design that drastically improves visibility during gameplay.
While accessibility took absolute priority throughout the development process, the creative team ensured that style was never compromised. The color palette pays explicit homage to the Disability Pride Flag, originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill. Many members of the design and advocacy teams are avid dice collectors who love showcasing fun accessories to their friends at the table, proving that visual excitement and functional accessibility can go hand in hand.

Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond
An essential feature of the Disability Pride Dice Set is its robust digital component integrated directly into D&D Beyond. With every physical purchase, players receive a unique redemption code to unlock a digital counterpart of the dice set on the platform, seamlessly bridging the gap between in-person sessions and virtual tabletop campaigns. For players who prefer purely digital spaces, the digital set is also available for purchase on its own.
Although the digital version is not a literal one-for-one visual replica of the physical pieces, many of the core design adjustments have been successfully translated into the D&D Beyond ecosystem. This digital integration helps dismantle traditional barriers surrounding identification and readability in online environments. By offering the flexibility to roll physical dice or utilize the platform’s digital rolling tools, Vaughan noted that she hopes to empower players with the autonomy to select the exact experience that best accommodates their individual accessibility needs.
For Vaughan personally, the digital tools offer a vital way to participate fully without being overwhelmed by peripheral tasks. While she adores the game of Dungeons & Dragons, she has often struggled with the cognitive load required to calculate every individual roll during fast-paced sessions. Having the specialized dice available directly on D&D Beyond means she can proudly display her disability pride to her party while still leveraging the built-in computational support the platform provides.
AAPD Joins the Party
The final cornerstone of this innovative initiative is a philanthropic commitment tied directly to the product’s sales. Ten dollars from every purchase of the Disability Pride Dice Set will be donated directly to the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), an organization dedicated to increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities. Vaughan emphasized that the partnership with the AAPD underscores the vital importance of building community through play while ensuring that disabled individuals are central to the conversations that affect them.
The disability community often champions the phrase "nothing about us, without us," a guiding principle signifying that all discussions, policies, and decisions regarding disabled people must actively involve disabled people themselves. Vaughan noted that this philosophy has been the bedrock of everything the DAA employee resource group does, making it essential to find an external partner that embodies the exact same ethos. Partnering with an organization that has spent decades advocating alongside the disability community felt like a natural alignment.
Whether players are battling fierce dragons, solving ancient, labyrinthine mysteries, or simply gathering around a kitchen table for a weekly campaign with close friends, the Accessible Adventures Disability Pride Dice Set serves as a vibrant celebration of what makes Dungeons & Dragons truly magical: the fundamental truth that everyone belongs in the story.
Maria Town, President and CEO of the AAPD, echoed these sentiments regarding the transformative impact of inclusive product design in the tabletop gaming space. She emphasized that there should be no barriers to play in any world, whether real or fantastical. In Dungeons & Dragons, participants are invited to dream up extraordinary, limitless worlds full of endless adventure. With the creation of these specialized dice, the act of play itself can finally match the boundless imaginations of Dungeon Masters and the intricate characters envisioned by players. Town expressed deep gratitude to Sirius Dice and their collaborators for their unwavering commitment to accessibility in designing a product that ensures adventure is always within reach for everyone.
