The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has announced an exciting new collaboration alongside Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice, introducing a specialized polyhedral dice set designed with accessibility at the forefront. Titled the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set, this new 7-piece collection has been forged with the explicit goal of making tabletop roleplaying games more welcoming, readable, and accessible for every kind of player gathered around the table.
Developed with insights and research from the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA)—an employee resource group consisting of team members at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast—the dice were carefully crafted to address common barriers faced by adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By combining striking visual appeal, thoughtful functional design, and integrated digital support, the product aims to ensure that every critical roll, every natural twenty, and every unforgettable moment of collaborative storytelling can be shared equitably by all participants.
Accessibility and Adventure
The foundation for the new Disability Pride Dice Set stems directly from the frustrations frequently voiced by members of the disability community regarding standard, mass-market gaming dice, which often prioritize aesthetic novelty over functional readability. Bailey Vaughan, a D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist who also serves as a DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, explained the thoughtful philosophy that guided the development team throughout the creation process.
"We knew going in that since the disability community is extremely diverse, we wouldn’t be able to create a set of dice that addresses every barrier a disabled player may face," Vaughan noted. "Instead, our goal is to show how small adjustments can make a huge difference in terms of accessibility."
Those small yet impactful adjustments quickly found their way into multiple facets of the product, beginning even before the box is opened. The packaging itself features an intentionally designed easy-open cap, which makes the product significantly easier for players with low vision or mobility challenges to identify, open, and store.
When it comes to the dice themselves, the design team implemented several distinct modifications. These include substantially increased font sizes for better legibility, carefully chosen and easily distinctive color contrasts, the integration of the OpenDyslexic font to assist players with dyslexia, and a unique arch-style four-sided die (d4) design that drastically improves visibility and handling compared to traditional pyramid shapes.
While accessibility firmly took a front seat throughout the design phase, the creators were careful to ensure that visual style was never compromised. The color palette of the dice pays vibrant homage to the Disability Pride Flag, which was originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill.
"A lot of us are also dice goblins and love to collect fun dice to show our friends at the table," Vaughan said. "Our team wanted to create something visually exciting while keeping our commitment to accessibility."
Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond
To further enhance usability and ensure that barriers are minimized across different formats of play, an essential component of the Disability Pride Dice Set is its integrated digital support through D&D Beyond. With every physical purchase of the dice set, players receive a dedicated digital code that unlocks a matching digital version of the dice on the D&D Beyond platform. This functionality allows for seamless, accessible play whether campaigns take place across a physical living room table or digitally across the internet. Additionally, players who primarily or exclusively utilize online platforms have the option to purchase just the digital version of the set on its own.

Although the digital iteration is not an exact one-for-one physical replica of the tangible dice, many of the core design adjustments have been successfully translated into the D&D Beyond environment. This digital implementation helps dismantle long-standing digital barriers regarding visual identification and readability.
By offering players the flexibility to choose between rolling physical dice or utilizing the platform’s digital rolling tools, Vaughan expressed hope that the product empowers individuals with the autonomy to select the exact gaming experience that best suits their unique, personal accessibility needs.
"For myself personally, I adore the game of Dungeons & Dragons but really struggle with the cognitive load of calculating each roll," Vaughan shared. "Having the dice available on D&D Beyond means I can share my disability pride with my party while still using the support the platform offers."
AAPD Joins the Party
Beyond its physical and digital design innovations, the release of the new dice set carries a philanthropic mission. Ten dollars from every purchase of the Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set goes directly to support the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), a leading national organization dedicated to increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities.
Vaughan emphasized that this partnership with the AAPD speaks volumes about the vital importance of not only building genuine community through shared play, but also ensuring that the disabled community is actively included in the conversations that shape products intended for them.
"There is a saying in the disability community—’nothing about us, without us,’" Vaughan stated. "What this means is that conversations and decisions about the disability community should happen with the disability community. This has been a core principle for everything we do as an employee resource group and it was important for us to find a partner that also embodied this phrase. We thought who better than a team that has been advocating alongside the disability community for the past 31 years."
Whether participants are spending their evenings battling dragons, solving ancient mysteries, or simply gathering around a table with friends to share a story, the Accessible Adventures Disability Pride Dice Set serves as a tangible celebration of the core idea that makes tabletop roleplaying games so enduringly magical: everyone belongs in the story.
Maria Town, President and CEO of the AAPD, underscored the profound impact that thoughtful design and inclusive corporate partnerships can have on hobbyists with disabilities.
"There should be no barriers to play in any world—whether real or fantastical," Town said. "In Dungeons & Dragons, you can dream up a fantastical world full of adventure. With the creation of these dice, now the act of play will be as unlimited as Dungeon Masters’ imaginations or the characters players create. We’re grateful to Sirius Dice for their partnership and commitment to accessibility in designing these dice."
