The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has announced an exciting new partnership with Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice to launch the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures—Disability Pride Dice Set. This newly unveiled 7-piece polyhedral dice set is specifically designed to dismantle long-standing barriers and make tabletop roleplaying games more accessible to a diverse range of players.
Inspired by comprehensive research conducted by the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA) employee resource group at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, the new dice collection was thoughtfully engineered for adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By combining high-contrast visual elements, ergonomic considerations, and thoughtful typography, the set bridges the gap between functional accessibility and tabletop style, ensuring that every player at the table can participate fully in the shared storytelling experience of Dungeons & Dragons.
The collaboration also bridges the physical and digital realms. Alongside the physical dice, the release features integrated digital support on D&D Beyond, allowing players to utilize these accessible features whether they are gathering around a physical table for an in-person campaign or connecting with a party online. Furthermore, a substantial portion of the proceeds from every purchase will directly support the AAPD’s ongoing mission to increase the political and economic power of people with disabilities.
Accessibility and Adventure at the Table
According to Bailey Vaughan, D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, the foundation for the Disability Pride Dice Set grew directly out of the very real frustrations expressed by disabled members of the tabletop gaming community regarding standard, mass-market dice.
Vaughan notes that because the disability community is extraordinarily diverse, the design team recognized early on that a single set of dice could not possibly address every single barrier that a disabled player might encounter during a session. Instead, the primary objective was to demonstrate how intentional, thoughtful adjustments can collectively make a monumental difference in terms of overall table accessibility.
These careful adjustments are evident from the moment a player interacts with the product. The packaging itself features an easy-open cap designed to assist individuals with low vision or mobility impairments in easily identifying, opening, and storing their gear. The physical dice boast significantly increased font sizes, high-contrast and easily distinctive colorways, the use of the OpenDyslexic font to improve readability for players with dyslexia, and a unique, custom arch-style d4 design that improves visibility and handling compared to traditional four-sided dice.
While accessibility remained at the absolute forefront of the design process, the team was careful not to sacrifice aesthetics. The striking color palette of the set pays direct homage to the Disability Pride Flag, originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill. Vaughan points out that many tabletop gamers are enthusiastic collectors who enjoy showing off unique accessories to their peers, meaning the team was driven to create a visually captivating product that did not compromise its underlying commitment to inclusive design.

Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond
To ensure that accessibility extends beyond the physical tabletop, the Disability Pride Dice Set includes robust digital functionality through D&D Beyond. Every purchase of the physical set includes a redemption code to unlock a digital counterpart on the platform, and players also have the option to purchase the digital dice set independently.
While the digital iteration is not an exact one-for-one replication of the physical polyhedrals, many of the core design adjustments have been successfully translated to the digital toolset. This integration helps dismantle common digital barriers related to visual identification and text readability. By offering both physical dice and digital support, Vaughan explains that the initiative aims to empower players by giving them the autonomy to choose the exact medium and formatting that best suits their individual accessibility needs.
Reflecting on her own experiences, Vaughan shares that while she deeply loves playing Dungeons & Dragons, she often struggles with the cognitive load required to quickly calculate numerical outcomes during fast-paced encounters. Having these specialized dice integrated directly into D&D Beyond allows her to proudly display her disability pride to her gaming group while simultaneously utilizing the helpful backend support features built into the digital platform.
AAPD Joins the Party for Inclusion
A crucial pillar of this collaborative release is its philanthropic impact. Ten dollars from the sale of every physical dice set will be donated directly to the American Association of People with Disabilities, an organization dedicated to strengthening the political and economic power of the disability community. Vaughan emphasizes that this partnership underscores the fundamental importance of building genuine community through play and ensuring that disabled individuals are meaningfully included in the conversations that shape products intended for them.
Quoting a foundational tenet of the disability rights movement, Vaughan highlights the phrase "nothing about us, without us." She explains that this philosophy guided every decision made by the employee resource group throughout the development process, making it essential to partner with an advocacy organization that has stood alongside the disability community for over three decades.
The sentiment is widely shared by leadership at the AAPD. Maria Town, President and CEO of the organization, stresses that physical and digital barriers should have no place in any realm, whether real or fantastical. Town notes that while Dungeons & Dragons allows participants to dream up limitless fantasy worlds filled with epic adventures, the introduction of these specialized dice ensures that the act of play itself will now match the boundless imaginations of Dungeon Masters and the diverse characters brought to life by players. She expressed deep gratitude to Sirius Dice and Wizards of the Coast for their steadfast dedication to accessibility in game design, reinforcing the core idea that in the magical world of D&D, everyone belongs in the story.
