The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has announced an exciting new collaborative partnership with Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice to launch a specially designed product for tabletop gaming enthusiasts: the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set. Forged specifically to make tabletop adventures more accessible to a wide array of players, this 7-piece polyhedral set represents a significant step forward in bringing inclusivity to gaming tables around the world.
Inspired by comprehensive research conducted by the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA) employee resource group at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, the new dice set has been carefully engineered for adventurers who experience low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By combining striking visual appeal, thoughtful tactile design, and enhanced readability, the initiative seeks to ensure that every participant at the gaming table has an equal opportunity to roll for initiative, face down formidable monsters, and share in the unforgettable moments that define the tabletop roleplaying experience.
In addition to the physical components, the release includes integrated digital support on D&D Beyond for both in-person campaigns and online play. This dual approach ensures that whether players are gathered around a physical kitchen table or connecting across digital spaces, the Disability Pride Dice Set helps bridge accessibility gaps so that every critical hit and pivotal roll can be fully experienced by all members of a gaming group.
Accessibility and Adventure
The journey toward creating the Disability Pride Dice Set began with a recognition of the various barriers and frustrations that members of the disability community have historically encountered when using standard gaming accessories. Bailey Vaughan, D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, explained that the foundational philosophy of the project acknowledged the vast diversity within the disability community itself.
According to Vaughan, the design team knew from the outset that it would be impossible to create a single set of dice that could individually address every conceivable barrier a disabled player might face. Instead, the primary objective was to demonstrate how thoughtful, intentional adjustments can produce a massive difference in overall accessibility and usability.
These practical adjustments are evident throughout the entire product experience, beginning with the packaging. The set comes housed in an easy-open container featuring an accessible cap design, making it significantly easier for individuals with low vision or mobility impairments to identify, open, and store their dice.
When it comes to the dice themselves, the design team incorporated several vital modifications. These include substantially increased font sizes to aid readability, carefully selected colors that provide high contrast and distinct differentiation for players with color vision deficiency, and the implementation of the OpenDyslexic font to support dyslexic players. Additionally, the set features a unique, arch-style d4 design that improves visibility and handling compared to traditional four-sided dice.
While accessibility served as the guiding principle throughout the development process, the design team was careful to ensure that visual style was never compromised. The color palette of the dice directly honors the Disability Pride Flag, which was originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill.
Vaughan noted that many members of the gaming community, including developers and advocates alike, share a passion for collecting unique dice to showcase to their friends and fellow players during game nights. The team ultimately wanted to craft an accessory that was visually striking and exciting while maintaining an unwavering commitment to functional accessibility.

Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond
A critical component of the Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set is its seamless integration with D&D Beyond, the official digital toolset for the game. Every purchase of the physical dice set includes a unique digital code that unlocks a corresponding virtual version of the dice on the D&D Beyond platform. For players who prefer purely digital formats, the platform also offers the option to purchase the digital set on its own.
Although the digital version is not an exact one-for-one replica of the physical pieces, many of the core design adjustments have been successfully carried over to the online platform. This digital adaptation helps dismantle persistent barriers related to visual identification and numerical readability during gameplay.
By offering players the flexibility to choose between physical dice, digital tools, or a combination of both, Vaughan expressed hope that the product empowers individuals with the autonomy to select the exact gameplay experience that best suits their personal accessibility requirements.
Reflecting on her own experiences, Vaughan shared that while she has a deep affection for Dungeons & Dragons, she often struggles with the cognitive load required to calculate each roll quickly. Having the specialized dice available directly on D&D Beyond provides a practical solution that allows her to display her disability pride to her gaming party while utilizing the built-in support features of the digital platform.
AAPD Joins the Party
A central pillar of this innovative release is its philanthropic impact. Ten dollars from the purchase of every physical dice set goes directly to support the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), an organization dedicated to increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities through advocacy, education, and community building.
Vaughan emphasized that the collaboration with AAPD highlights the fundamental importance of fostering community through play while ensuring that the disabled community is actively included in the conversations that affect them. She pointed to a well-known adage within the disability movement, "nothing about us, without us," which underscores the principle that any decisions or discussions concerning disabled individuals must involve disabled voices from the very beginning.
This ethos has served as a core guiding principle for the employee resource group’s initiatives, making it essential to find an advocacy partner that truly embodies the phrase. Selecting an organization that has spent more than three decades fighting alongside the disability community felt like a natural and powerful alignment.
Whether players are embarking on epic quests to battle dragons, solving intricate ancient mysteries, or simply gathering around a table with friends to unwind, the Accessible Adventures Disability Pride Dice Set stands as a celebration of the core idea that makes tabletop gaming special: everyone belongs in the story.
Maria Town, President and CEO of AAPD, echoed these sentiments regarding the partnership and the broader implications of inclusive game design. She noted that there should never be any barriers to play in any world, whether real or fantastical. In a game like Dungeons & Dragons, participants are invited to dream up boundless fantastical worlds full of adventure, and the introduction of these accessible dice helps ensure that the act of play remains as unlimited as a Dungeon Master’s imagination or the creative visions of the players themselves. Town expressed deep gratitude to Sirius Dice and their collaborators for their dedication to universal accessibility in shaping the project, reinforcing the idea that with accessibility woven into every roll, genuine adventure is always within reach.
