Wizards of the Coast, Sirius Dice, and AAPD Launch the Disability Pride Dice Set to Make Tabletop Gaming More Accessible

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has officially announced an exciting new partnership with Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice to introduce a groundbreaking product designed to make tabletop roleplaying games more inclusive: the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set.

This newly unveiled 7-piece polyhedral dice set is meticulously forged with the goal of making adventure more accessible for every kind of player gathered around the table. Developed with insights from the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA), an employee resource group at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, the collection addresses common physical and cognitive barriers faced by many tabletop gamers. The design specifically caters to adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments, combining striking visual appeal with high readability.

Furthermore, the release integrates digital support on D&D Beyond, allowing players to utilize the set during both in-person campaigns and online sessions. By ensuring that every roll, critical success, and unforgettable moment can be shared seamlessly by all participants, the initiative reinforces the core tenet that tabletop gaming should welcome everyone.

Accessibility and Adventure

The foundation for the new Disability Pride Dice Set stems directly from longstanding frustrations experienced by the disability community regarding standard, mass-market gaming accessories. Bailey Vaughan, a D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, noted that creators approached the project with a clear understanding of the community’s immense diversity.

"We knew going in that since the disability community is extremely diverse, we wouldn’t be able to create a set of dice that addresses every barrier a disabled player may face," Vaughan explained. Instead, the team’s primary objective was to demonstrate how thoughtful, targeted adjustments can make a profound difference in overall accessibility.

These functional adjustments are evident before a player even opens the package. The physical set includes an easy-open cap designed to assist individuals with low vision or mobility impairments in identifying and storing their gear. Inside, the dice themselves incorporate numerous intentional design choices. These features include significantly increased font sizes, easily distinctive color contrasts, the application of the OpenDyslexic font to improve legibility, and a unique arch-style d4 design that enhances number visibility from various angles at the table.

Despite the heavy emphasis on accessibility, aesthetics and personal expression were never compromised. The color palette of the set pays direct homage to the Disability Pride Flag, which was originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill.

"A lot of us are also dice goblins and love to collect fun dice to show our friends at the table," Vaughan said. "Our team wanted to create something visually exciting while keeping our commitment to accessibility."

How the New Sirius D&D Disability Pride Dice Make Gaming Accessible for All Players

Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond

To maximize inclusivity across different playing environments, the Disability Pride Dice Set features a robust digital component hosted on D&D Beyond. With every physical purchase, customers receive a unique code to unlock a digital version of the set on the platform, bridging the gap between traditional face-to-face sessions and virtual tabletops. Players who prefer a completely digital format also have the option to purchase the virtual dice set independently.

While the digital rendering is not a rigid one-for-one replica of the physical pieces, many of the essential design adaptations have been successfully translated to the digital platform. This digital integration helps dismantle traditional barriers related to item identification and number readability. By offering the flexibility to choose between physical dice and digital tools, Vaughan expressed hope that the product empowers players with the autonomy to select the experience that best aligns with their individual accessibility needs.

"For myself personally, I adore the game of Dungeons & Dragons but really struggle with the cognitive load of calculating each roll," Vaughan shared. "Having the dice available on D&D Beyond means I can share my disability pride with my party while still using the support the platform offers."

AAPD Joins the Party

A vital component of this collaborative release is its philanthropic impact. Ten dollars from the purchase of every physical set will directly benefit the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), an organization dedicated to increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities through advocacy and community building.

Vaughan emphasized that the collaboration with the AAPD underscores the critical importance of fostering community through play while ensuring that disabled individuals lead conversations concerning their own experiences.

"There is a saying in the disability community—’nothing about us, without us,’" Vaughan stated. "What this means is that conversations and decisions about the disability community should happen with the disability community. This has been a core principle for everything we do as an employee resource group, and it was important for us to find a partner that also embodied this phrase. We thought who better than a team that has been advocating alongside the disability community for the past 31 years."

Whether players are embarking on epic campaigns to battle dragons, solving intricate ancient mysteries, or simply gathering around a kitchen table with close friends on a weekend evening, the Accessible Adventures Disability Pride Dice Set serves as a celebration of the foundational magic of Dungeons & Dragons: the principle that everyone belongs in the story.

Maria Town, President and CEO of the AAPD, echoed this sentiment regarding the broader implications of inclusive game design. "There should be no barriers to play in any world—whether real or fantastical," Town said. "In Dungeons & Dragons, you can dream up a fantastical world full of adventure. With the creation of these dice, now the act of play will be as unlimited as Dungeon Masters’ imaginations or the characters players create. We’re grateful to Sirius Dice for their partnership and commitment to accessibility in designing these dice."
