The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has announced an exciting new collaboration with Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice to launch a specialized Dungeons & Dragons dice set designed around disability pride. The initiative marks a significant step forward in tabletop gaming accessibility, offering a thoughtfully crafted product intended to ensure that every player at the table can fully participate in the shared storytelling experience of a campaign.
The new product, officially titled the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set, is a 7-piece polyhedral set engineered to address various barriers faced by players in the tabletop gaming community. Developed with insights and research from the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA) employee resource group at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, the dice are tailored to assist adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By combining high-visibility design, readable typography, and integrated digital support, the collaboration aims to make rolling for initiative easier and more inclusive than ever before.
Every purchase of the physical dice set also includes digital support on D&D Beyond, bridging the gap between in-person sessions and online play. Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds from every sale will directly support the AAPD, reinforcing a shared commitment to disability advocacy and community empowerment.
Accessibility and Adventure in Tabletop Gaming
The conceptual foundation of the Disability Pride Dice Set emerged from direct observations of the frustrations experienced by disabled players using standard, mass-market gaming accessories. Bailey Vaughan, a D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, noted that the creation of the set acknowledges the immense diversity within the disability community.
Recognizing that a single product could not possibly resolve every unique barrier encountered by every disabled player, the development team focused instead on demonstrating how intentional, thoughtful adjustments can dramatically improve overall accessibility. These design principles were integrated into both the packaging and the physical construction of the dice themselves.
The packaging features an easy-open cap designed to assist individuals with low vision or mobility impairments when identifying and storing their equipment. Meanwhile, the dice incorporate increased font sizes, carefully chosen high-contrast colorways, the use of the OpenDyslexic font to aid readers, and a distinctive arch-style four-sided die (d4) designed for significantly improved visibility and handling.
Despite the heavy emphasis on functional accessibility, the development team remained committed to maintaining a high standard of visual appeal. The aesthetic of the dice pays direct homage to the Disability Pride Flag, which was originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill.
Vaughan observed that many members of the gaming community enjoy collecting diverse and visually striking dice to share with their peers at the table. The collaborative team successfully balanced this desire for exciting tabletop aesthetics with a rigorous dedication to inclusive design, ensuring players do not have to choose between personal expression and practical usability.

Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond Integration
A key functional element of the Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set is its seamless integration with the digital ecosystem of D&D Beyond. With each purchase of the physical set, consumers receive a digital code that unlocks a corresponding virtual version of the dice on the platform. This dual offering facilitates accessible play across both traditional face-to-face gatherings and remote virtual campaigns.
While the digital dice are not a strict one-to-one replica of their physical counterparts, many of the core design adjustments have been successfully transitioned onto D&D Beyond. This digital adaptation helps eliminate common hurdles associated with visual identification, contrast, and readability during fast-paced gameplay.
By providing both physical accessories and digital tools, the initiative aims to grant players the autonomy to select the medium that best accommodates their individual needs and preferences. Vaughan shared that, from a personal perspective, the digital integration provides crucial support by alleviating the cognitive load often required to calculate arithmetic during intense gaming sessions. Having the themed dice available on D&D Beyond allows her to proudly represent the disability community while utilizing the built-in computational support offered by the platform.
AAPD Joins the Party for Advocacy and Inclusion
A cornerstone of this collaborative project is its direct philanthropic support for the disability rights movement. Ten dollars from the sale of each dice set will be donated to the American Association of People with Disabilities, an organization dedicated to increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities through coalition building, advocacy, and education.
Vaughan emphasized that partnering with the AAPD highlights the fundamental importance of community-building through play and ensures that the disabled community remains central to conversations about accessibility. The collaboration reflects a well-known axiom within the disability rights movement: "nothing about us, without us." This principle dictates that any decisions, designs, or conversations concerning the disability community must involve disabled individuals directly.
As an employee resource group, the DAA sought a partner that has spent decades championing these values. Having advocated alongside the disability community for 31 years, the AAPD was viewed as an ideal organization to help anchor the project in authentic advocacy.
Maria Town, President and CEO of the AAPD, underscored the significance of removing barriers in both real-world and fantastical environments. Town noted that while Dungeons & Dragons allows participants to dream up boundless worlds filled with imagination and adventure, the introduction of these specialized dice helps ensure that the act of play itself remains just as limitless. Expressing gratitude to Sirius Dice and Wizards of the Coast, Town commended their shared commitment to embedding accessibility into the core design of the product.
Ultimately, the release of the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set represents a meaningful step toward a more inclusive hobby. By centering the needs of diverse players and supporting vital advocacy work, the collaboration reinforces the fundamental idea that everyone belongs in the story, ensuring that the magic of tabletop adventure remains truly within reach for all.
