Every hero deserves a fair chance to roll for initiative, step up to the table, and partake in the shared storytelling of tabletop roleplaying games. In a major step toward making that ideal a reality for a broader range of players, Wizards of the Coast has announced a collaborative partnership with Sirius Dice and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). Together, the organizations have unveiled the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set, a newly designed 7-piece polyhedral set engineered specifically to eliminate long-standing barriers to table play.
The project originated from research and development conducted by the Disability & Accessibility Alliance (DAA), an employee resource group representing staff at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. Developed with an acute awareness of the diverse needs within the gaming community, the dice were carefully crafted to assist adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By blending high-visibility aesthetics, thoughtful physical ergonomics, and digital integration, the initiative aims to ensure that the magic of tabletop gaming remains open to everyone.
The physical dice set arrives alongside integrated digital support on D&D Beyond, bridging the gap between in-person sessions and online campaigns. Whether players are gathering around a physical table or connecting virtually across digital platforms, the new dice are intended to help ensure that every critical roll, every triumphant moment, and every shared memory can be experienced by all participants without technical or physical exclusion.
Accessibility and Adventure
The driving force behind the Disability Pride Dice Set is rooted in the everyday frustrations that disabled players have historically encountered with standard gaming accessories. According to Bailey Vaughan, a D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and a key champion of accessibility advocacy and education within the DAA, the design team recognized the immense diversity of the disability community from the very beginning of the project.
Vaughan noted that the team understood early on that a single set of dice could not possibly address every distinct barrier that a disabled player might face. Instead, the core philosophy centered on demonstrating how thoughtful, deliberate design adjustments can make an immense difference in overall accessibility. These adjustments are evident before a player even opens the set, beginning with the packaging itself. The dice come in a container featuring an easy-open cap, a minor mechanical detail that significantly benefits individuals with low vision or limited fine motor control when it comes to identifying, retrieving, and storing their components.
The physical design of the dice themselves incorporates several structural modifications. These include increased font sizes for better legibility, carefully chosen color contrasts that account for various forms of color vision deficiency, and the integration of the OpenDyslexic font to assist players with dyslexia. Additionally, the set features a unique, arch-style d4 design that replaces traditional tetrahedral shapes with a form that offers substantially improved visibility and easier handling.
Despite the heavy emphasis on functional accessibility, the design team was careful not to compromise on the artistic and aesthetic appeal that drives much of the tabletop hobby. The color palette of the dice pays deliberate homage to the Disability Pride Flag, originally created by disabled activist Ann Magill.
Vaughan pointed out that members of the tabletop community often embrace the identity of "dice goblins," taking joy in collecting visually striking dice to showcase to their friends and fellow players during sessions. The development team successfully navigated the balance between creating a visually exciting product that satisfies this collecting culture while upholding a strict commitment to practical, inclusive design.

Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond
A crucial dimension of the Disability Pride Dice Set is its dual-format availability, incorporating both physical components and digital support through D&D Beyond. With the purchase of the physical product, players receive a digital redemption code that unlocks a matching digital version of the dice set on the platform. This integration allows for seamless, accessible play regardless of whether a campaign is taking place physically around a table or remotely across the internet. Furthermore, players who prefer a purely digital experience have the option to purchase the digital dice set independently.
While the digital iterations are not exact one-for-one visual replicas of their physical counterparts, many of the essential accessibility adaptations have been successfully translated into the D&D Beyond interface. These digital adjustments are designed to minimize barriers related to visual identification, readability, and the cognitive load associated with managing game mechanics.
For Vaughan, the digital integration offers personal as well as professional significance. She shared that while she deeply adores the mechanics and storytelling of Dungeons & Dragons, she frequently contends with the cognitive load required to calculate individual rolls during fast-paced encounters. Having an accessible digital dice option available directly on D&D Beyond allows her to proudly display her disability pride to her gaming party while utilizing the digital platform’s built-in support tools to manage gameplay mechanics smoothly.
AAPD Joins the Party
Beyond its physical and digital design features, the initiative carries a strong community and philanthropic component. Ten dollars from the purchase of every dice set will be donated directly to the American Association of People with Disabilities, an organization dedicated to increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities through advocacy, education, and community building.
Vaughan emphasized that the collaboration with the AAPD reinforces the fundamental importance of fostering community through play while ensuring that disabled individuals are directly included in the conversations that shape products intended for them. She highlighted the foundational disability rights maxim, "nothing about us, without us," noting that this principle guides the internal work of the DAA employee resource group. When searching for a charitable partner to support the release, the team looked for an organization that embodied this ethos, finding a natural ally in the AAPD, which has advocated alongside the disability community for over three decades.
Whether players are engaging in tactical combat against legendary monsters, solving intricate narrative mysteries, or simply spending an evening sharing stories with friends around a table, the Accessible Adventures Disability Pride Dice Set serves as a tangible celebration of the core principle that everyone belongs in the shared narrative of Dungeons & Dragons.
Maria Town, President and CEO of the AAPD, underscored the broader significance of the partnership and the product’s release, stating that there should be no barriers to play in any world—whether real or fantastical. She noted that while Dungeons & Dragons allows participants to dream up boundless worlds full of adventure, the creation of these specialized dice helps ensure that the actual act of play remains as unlimited as a Dungeon Master’s imagination or a player’s character concept. Town expressed gratitude to Sirius Dice and Wizards of the Coast for their partnership and their dedication to embedding accessibility into the core design of the tabletop experience.
