Every hero deserves a chance to roll for initiative, and a new collaborative effort is aiming to ensure that tabletop gaming tables are welcoming to all participants. The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has announced a partnership with Wizards of the Coast and Sirius Dice to unveil the Dungeons & Dragons Accessible Adventures – Disability Pride Dice Set. This new seven-piece polyhedral set has been carefully forged to make tabletop adventures more accessible for a diverse range of players, combining striking visual design with thoughtful readability features worthy of a legendary loot drop.
Inspired by research from the Disability and Accessibility Alliance (DAA) employee resource group at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, the dice were created specifically to address common barriers faced by adventurers with low vision, neurodivergence, dyslexia, color vision deficiency, and mobility impairments. By integrating thoughtful physical design adjustments with digital support on D&D Beyond for both in-person campaigns and online play, the project helps ensure that every roll, every critical success, and every unforgettable moment around the gaming table can be shared by everyone.
Accessibility and Adventure
The foundation for the new Disability Pride Dice Set stems directly from some of the long-standing frustrations experienced by the disability community regarding standard tabletop gaming accessories. Bailey Vaughan, D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, notes that the development team understood the vast diversity within the disability community from the very beginning of the project.
Because the community encompasses such a wide array of experiences, the creators knew they could not single-handedly produce a single set of dice that would address every potential barrier a disabled player might encounter. Instead, the guiding philosophy was to demonstrate how thoughtful, targeted adjustments can make an enormous difference in terms of overall accessibility at the gaming table.
Those intentional adjustments manifest in both the packaging and the physical construction of the dice themselves. The packaging features an easy-open cap designed to assist individuals with low vision or mobility impairments in easily identifying and storing their gaming components. Meanwhile, the dice incorporate increased font sizes, easily distinctive color palettes, and the utilization of the OpenDyslexic font to improve readability for players with dyslexia. Additionally, the set features a unique arch-style four-sided die (d4) design to enhance visibility and handling.
While accessibility took a front seat throughout the design process, the creators were careful to ensure that visual style was not neglected. The striking color scheme pays direct homage to the Disability Pride Flag, which was originally designed by disabled activist Ann Magill.
Many tabletop enthusiasts take pride in collecting unique and visually interesting dice to showcase to their friends and fellow party members during campaign sessions. The design team sought to honor this culture of collecting while firmly maintaining their core commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible product for the wider gaming community.
Play Anywhere with D&D Beyond
An essential functional component of the Disability Pride Dice Set is its accompanying digital integration on D&D Beyond. With the purchase of the physical set, players receive a digital code to unlock a corresponding virtual version of the dice on the platform, allowing for seamless, accessible play whether a campaign is being conducted in person around a physical table or remotely via online virtual tabletops. Furthermore, players who prefer a purely digital experience also have the option to purchase the digital-only version of the set separately.

Although the virtual version of the dice is not a strict one-for-one replica of the physical set, many of the core design adjustments have been successfully transitioned into the digital ecosystem on D&D Beyond. This integration helps dismantle common barriers regarding visual identification and text readability in digital spaces. By offering players the flexibility to roll physical dice or utilize the digital component, Vaughan expresses hope that the product empowers individuals with the autonomy to choose the gaming experience that best suits their specific accessibility needs.
For Vaughan personally, the intersection of her passion for Dungeons & Dragons and her own accessibility requirements heavily informed the digital integration. While she adores the game, she frequently struggles with the cognitive load required to rapidly calculate each roll during fast-paced sessions. Having the specialized dice available directly on D&D Beyond means she can openly share her disability pride with her party while still leaning on the built-in computational support that the digital platform offers.
AAPD Joins the Party
A vital philanthropic component of this innovative release is that ten dollars from every purchase of the physical dice set goes directly to support the American Association of People with Disabilities. The organization works tirelessly to increase the political and economic power of people with disabilities across the country. Vaughan emphasizes that the partnership with AAPD speaks directly to the core importance of building genuine community through play and ensuring that the disabled community is actively included in those foundational conversations.
Within the disability community, there is a well-known and guiding maxim: "Nothing about us, without us." This principle dictates that all conversations, policies, and decisions concerning the disability community must happen in direct collaboration with disabled individuals themselves. Vaughan notes that this philosophy has served as a core principle for everything the employee resource group undertakes, making it essential to find an external partner that truly embodied the phrase. Looking for an ally that had spent decades fighting for the community, the team naturally gravitated toward an organization that has been advocating alongside disabled individuals for over three decades.
Whether players are battling fierce dragons, solving intricate ancient mysteries, or simply gathering around a tavern table with close friends, the Accessible Adventures Disability Pride Dice Set serves as a celebration of the fundamental magic of Dungeons & Dragons: the truth that everyone belongs in the story.
Maria Town, President and CEO of the AAPD, highlights the broader significance of the collaboration for the future of tabletop gaming. She asserts that there should be no barriers to play in any world, whether real or fantastical. In a game like Dungeons & Dragons, participants are invited to dream up fantastical realms full of endless adventure and imagination. With the creation of these specialized dice, the act of play itself can now become just as unlimited as a Dungeon Master’s imagination or the unique characters players bring to life at the table. Town expresses deep gratitude to Sirius Dice and their collaborators for their unwavering partnership and steadfast commitment to prioritizing accessibility in the design process.
With accessibility placed firmly at the heart of every roll, these new dice help ensure that epic tabletop adventure is always within reach for every player.
