TrumpRx Brand-Name Drug Prices Show Mixed Results Compared to Other Wealthy Nations, Analysis Finds

WASHINGTON — Prices for brand-name medications available through TrumpRx are roughly as likely to be higher as they are to be lower when compared against average prices found in other high-income countries, according to a newly released comprehensive analysis.

The evaluation, published by the Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker, examines a sample of 32 brand-name drugs listed on the TrumpRx website. The study deliberately excludes generic medications and biosimilars, focusing exclusively on brand-name products. These domestic prices were then measured against publicly available price data drawn from one or more of 11 member countries belonging to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD): Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The findings reveal a stark division in how domestic platform costs stack up against international pricing standards across the developed world. Out of the 32 medications evaluated in the comparative sample, the TrumpRx price was found to be lower than the cross-country average for 17 of the drugs. This subset of more favorably priced treatments includes five specific medications where the TrumpRx cost undercuts not just the international average, but falls below the individual price points available in every single one of the 11 comparison countries. Furthermore, the analysis noted that eight of the drugs feature prices that are at least $100 lower than the average amounts recorded in the peer nations.

However, the other side of the ledger reveals significant cost premiums for American consumers relying on the platform. For the remaining 15 drugs included in the study, the TrumpRx price was higher than the average price found in the comparable OECD countries. Most notably, this higher-priced category includes 13 medications where the TrumpRx price exceeds the prices available in every individual country surveyed in the international comparison group.

The findings highlight ongoing complexities within the broader landscape of pharmaceutical pricing, where costs for identical brand-name medications can vary drastically depending on the platform, purchasing mechanism, and national market regulations. While certain treatments available through TrumpRx offer substantial savings compared to international benchmarks, others carry a significant financial burden that surpasses averages seen across peer wealthy nations.

The full analysis, along with a wide array of additional data, metrics, and research regarding domestic and international health care costs, is made publicly available through the Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker. The online information hub is dedicated to continuously monitoring, analyzing, and assessing the performance, efficiency, and affordability of the United States health system.
